Joe G. Costner
Hendersonville - Joe G. Costner, 77, of Hendersonville, N.C. passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, N.C. after a short illness. A native of Norfolk, he retired to his hometown of Hendersonville seven years ago. He was a son of the late Sidney and Carrie Costner and was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Vivian Costner of Virginia Beach; a brother, Dwight Costner and a sister, Dixie Nix, both of Hendersonville.
A Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam era, Joe retired as a 1st Class Petty Officer after serving 20 years in the Navy. He then successfully owned and operated "Joes Cap City" in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area for 30 years.
After retiring from this, he maintained his love for fishing, which included 30 years of tournament sport fishing and his passion for tending roses. Joe attended First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Faye Costner; a son, Sidney Costner and his wife, Jeanie, of Virginia Beach; a daughter , Leigh-Ann Costner of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Kaitlan Costner, Michelle Costner, Patricia Jones, and Tyler Anders, all of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Malachi Jones of Virginia Beach; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wally Shamburger will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel.
