Alice Faircloth Obituary

Alice Poyner Faircloth CHESAPEAKE - Alice Poyner Faircloth, 73, formerly of the 1500 block of Battlefield Blvd. South, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, Nov. 8, 2010. Born in Moyock, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter M. Poyner Sr. and Amanda Reese Poyner. Alice retired from the Chesapeake Public School system after 30 years of service. She enjoyed the Outer Banks of North Carolina and bowling in the "Sometime Fun Time" league at AMF Chesapeake. She was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. In recent years, she attended Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church and served on the Kitty Hawk Recreation Committee. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Harry Faircloth Sr.; two children Winston Faircloth and wife Susie and Cheryl Best and husband Stan; two grandchildren, Wil Best and Walt Best; a sister, Clara Reese Whitehurst; a brother, Walter Martin Poyner Jr. and wife Marilyn; as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Tom Mercer and the Rev. Curtis Campbell will officiate. The visitation will begin Thursday with the family receiving friends from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, The Lupus Foundation or to Hickory United Methodist Church.
