Allen Dooley Obituary

Allen Lee Dooley CHESAPEAKE - The Rev. Allen Lee Dooley, 73, passed away at his home Dec. 24, 2010. Born July 16, 1937 in Roanoke, Va., to the late Walter L. and Christine Hartbarger Dooley, the Rev. Dooley was the retired pastor emeritus of Temple Baptist Church of Chesapeake, retiring in 2007 after 37 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Doris A. Dooley; two sons, Steven Todd Dooley and wife Lori of Chesapeake and Michael Tad Dooley and wife Shannon of Chesapeake; a daughter, Kristi Michelle Layden and husband Gary of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Cameron T. Dooley, Landon A. Dooley, Brooke A. Dooley, Taé A. Dooley, M. Tad Dooley, Christine G. Dooley, Cara F. Dooley, Grayson Allen Layden and Aubree E. Layden. Additional to his mother and father, he was predeceased by his brothers, Lenford, Billy, Charlie and Russell Dooley. He graduated from Tennessee Temple College in 1960 with a B.A. degree and Tennessee Temple Seminary with a Master's of Theology degree in 1963. He founded and pastored Grace Baptist Church in Richmond, Ind., from 1963 to 1970 at which time he became the pastor of Temple Baptist Church of Chesapeake. He was a board member of B.I.M.I. and Union Mission. A homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Compton, the Rev. Dr. Frank Holman, the Rev. Dr. Jim Rushing, the Rev. Jerry Greco and the Rev. William Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Garden. Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Temple Baptist Church. The family requests that memorials, in lieu of flowers, be made to the mission program at Temple Baptist Church, 1322 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, VA 23323. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
