Barbara Stephens Obituary

Barbara E. K. Stephens NORFOLK - Barbara Elaine Kumins Stephens, 80, died Thursday, May 6, 2010. She was full of love, life and giving. She was always busy donating time with her favorite organizations, attending classes and being with her family and friends. She accomplished what she wanted in life and also how she wanted her death. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home and now joins her husband, Ralph R. Stephens. She is survived by her children, Ralph Stephens, Rebecca Guthrie and Elaine Virgili; four grandchildren, Franklin and Timothy Shaw, Jake and Josh Virgili and a loving sister-in-law, Cynthia "Bobbie" Kumins of Connecticut. A memorial service will be celebrated in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Thursday, May 13, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Ralph, Though I've expressed sympathy in person, I wanted to express it in written word. I didn't know your mom but do know you. By the description of your mom in her obituary it would seem that "you are your mother's son". By her example you live your life to the fullest. May you and your sisters have peace and comfort during this time of grief at your mom's passing. God bless all of you.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of a dear friend. She was an elegant lady. I served with her for many years on the Board of Directors of the Feldman Chamber Music Society. Over the years we had many conversations about living life to the fullest. She never quit living until God decided for her.

She will be greatly missed. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family.
