Ben Freeman Obituary

Ben M. Freeman Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Ben Madison Freeman Jr., 63, went home to rest in the arms of Jesus, Sept. 23, 2010 after a brave 20-year battle with multiple sclerosis. Ben was born in Norfolk. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a graduate of Bethune Cookman College, third in his class. He was a former member of Zion Baptist Church, Norfolk, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retiree from General Motors Corp. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Denise Freeman; two daughters, Monicke Freeman, Long Beach, Calif., and Ronita Thompson-Thomas (Charles) of Bloomington, Ind.; two sons, Tracy McPherson of Indiana and Ben M. Freeman III of Norfolk; a brother, Willie Britt (Jane), Baltimore; a sister, Lorraine Donald Epps (James) of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends; and a devoted friend, Reginald Whitaker. Special thanks to the Norfolk Health Care Center for their love and compassion. He was predeceased by two brothers, James Boyd and Sgt. 1st Class Robert L. Boyd. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Steele- Bullock Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth. Bishop Anthony Moses and Bishop Bobby Boyd will be officiating. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be Monday from noon to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble 3121 Kelnelm Drive, Chesapeake at 10:15 a.m. for the processional to the chapel. Condolences go to Steele Bullock Funeral Home at www.steelebullock.com.
