Bernard Joy Obituary

Bernard F. Joy Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Bernard Francis Joy Jr. died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010. He was born April 17, 1919, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. Frank Joy of Washington. He was the beloved husband for 66 years of Margaret Foster Joy; loving father of Kathleen Joy Stock, Craig Joy and Dawn Joy Williamson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Janice Joy; sons-in-law, Richard F. Williamson and Richard H. Stock. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and retired from the U.S. Navy after 28 years of service as a naval aviator. He retired in 1984 as director of personnel from Norfolk International Terminals. A memorial service will be held at Galilee Episcopal Church, 40th St. and Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. Services are pending with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad at 740 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
