Billie F. Brown
Virginia Beach - Billie Frances Felts Brown, 89, was born on 6 March 1925. She passed away on 12 April 2014 in Virginia Beach, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Southampton County, VA and was a 1942 graduate of Smithfield High School. She lived most of her adult life in the Va. Beach home which her late husband designed and had built.
Billie was a wonderful, loving and devoted daughter, spouse, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Billie spent many years as a volunteer for the Red Cross, as a member of the NARF Wive's Club and as a member of various garden clubs. She was also a former employee of Leggett's in Suffolk and Dinner Bell as a product demonstrator. She was a talented cook, seamstress, and ceramic artist. She was a passionate gardener and her large yard showed this with her beloved azaleas and camellias.
Billie was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Crumpler and Annie Laurie Whitmer Felts of Smithfield; her son-in-law, Raymond W. Engle of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and her beloved husband of 65 years, Walter Thomas Brown, Sr. of Akron, Ohio, who passed away in 2009.
She is survived by her loving children: daughter, Kathrynn Brown Engle of Norfolk and her son, Michael Engle of Charlottesville and his wife Alethia of Madrid, Spain; daughter, Kolleen Brown Gimbert of Va. Beach, her sons, Kenneth Gimbert of Va. Beach and Kenneth's children, Matt, Amber and Ashley, and Benjamin Gimbert of Va. Beach; daughter, Kristean Brown Camsky and her husband Mark of Va. Beach and their children, Heather C. Harcum and her husband Chad and their children, Gray and Kylie of Midlothian, VA, Jason Camsky of Vienna, VA and Logan Camsky of Va. Beach; son, Walter Thomas Brown, Jr. and his wife, Kim and their daughter, Olivia of Chesapeake.
Billie also leaves behind her devoted brothers, Homer G. Felts of Jacksonville, FL and Laurie Tom Felts and his wife, Janet of Murrysville, PA; her close sister, Anne Dolores Felts Pickrell and her husband Bob of Suffolk; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Virginia Beach General Hospital for the care they provided our mother. We are grateful to Comfort Keepers for the wonderful care they took of our Mom in her home during the last year, especially Susan for always being there and lending an ear, as well as the individual caregivers who were there for Mom. A special thank you to Katelyn, whose friendship became very special to Mom.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel on Tuesday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Princess Anne Memorial Park Rev. Tim Craig. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
