Chesapeake - Bobby "Lobe" Ayers, 71 passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, February 23, 2013. He was born in Raleigh, N.C. on December 7, 1941 and moved to Chesapeake, VA at a very early age with his parents. He was a proud and die-hard Washington Redskins fan.
He attended Crestwood HS but then left serve in the U.S. Army. He served his country honorably from April 1960 to April 1962 then returned to Crestwood HS and graduated in the class of 1965. He worked and retired from Norfolk & Western Railway Co and the Norfolk Public Works Center.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parent, John Ocie Dukes & Wilella Ayers Dukes; his brother, Ocie Dukes. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Ayers of Chesapeake, VA; twelve children, Rodney Bryant, Kit Bryant, Monique Bryant, Shawn Bryant, Scott Bryant all from California; Venus Johnson of Chesapeake, VA, Laiquita Richardson of Chesapeake, VA Marlon Brooks (Jada) of Chesapeake, VA, Shalon Richardson of Chesapeake, VA, Francesca Person(Antonio) of Chesapeake, VA, India Sheppard of Chesapeake, VA and Shante Ayers of Chesapeake, VA; sister, Gwendolyn Dukes Jones (Jimmy) of Newport News, VA; Sister in law, Catherine White (Tony) of Chesapeake, VA, Three Brother in Laws, Curtis Brooks (Flora Ann) of Chesapeake, VA, Ronnie Brooks of Chesapeake, VA, Randolph Brooks of Chesapeake, VA; special nieces, Teresa Little (Stacey) of Chesapeake, VA, Tonya Brooks (Corey) of Somerville, MD and Deshara Terry (Brian) of Chesapeake, VA; A special daughter Pamela Blount of Virginia Beach, VA; 25 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be at Fitchett Funeral Home on Friday from 2-7 p.m. A celebration of Bobby's life will be held at 12pm on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at New Galilee Baptist Church, 1013 Great Bridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
