Catherine Hobbs

Virginia Beach - Catherine (Kay) E. Hobbs, 90, passed away January 12, 2014. She was born in Yonkers, New York on June 22, 1923 to Stanley and Mary Bednarczuk. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years Don F. Hobbs, her son Bruce E. Hobbs, her grandson Christopher Paul Hobbs, and her brother Eugene Bednarczuk.

She is survived by her son Dennis and his wife, Jane; daughter-in-law Dolores; brother, Robert and his wife, Diane; sister-in-law, Mary Lou, 4 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and many loving nieces and nephew.

She lived in Norfolk for 55 years before moving to Virginia Beach. She retired from Nursing after a 20 year career at Leigh Memorial Hospital. Kay never met a stranger. She made lifelong friends whom she valued highly. Of special mention would be her neighbor Jurdy Doyle and family and her friend Delsey Faye Berch Family.

She belonged to the Great Neck Point Garden Club and held the title of "Miss Sunshine". On birthdays, she would send a beautifully embellished card, each a work of art.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 15th between 6-8pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. Per Kays wishes, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11am on Thursday, January 16th, burial will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens following with a reception at the funeral home. Please join us as we celebrate the life of this charismatic lady.

In Lieu of flowers, Kay has requested memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
