Chesapeake - Cecil Mason McDaniel, 72, of Chesapeake, Va. passed away peacefully on November 4, 2013.

Born in Poca, West Virginia, he was the oldest of three sons born to the late Virginia and Albert McDaniel. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ruth McDaniel of Nitro, W.Va. for 44 years. Cecil will be forever remembered by Mary; and his brothers, James (Sandra) McDaniel of Williamsburg, Va. and Steven (Christa) McDaniel of Canton, Ohio; children, Timothy McDaniel, Larry (Huey Sue) Sayre of Vacaville, Calif., Julie (Richard) Byrd of Chesapeake, Va. and Penny Tuthill of Richmond, Va.; his treasured grandchildren, Richard (Jen) Byrd, Megan (Scotty) George, Robert Byrd, Shawn (Casey) Tuthill and Robert Tuthill; and his 5 great grandchildren, along with countless friends and family whom were blessed to have known him.

Cecil retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years honorable service, which included two tours of Antarctica, and was awarded the Antarctica Service Medal. He then worked with Mary as manager of Econo Motor Lodge in Hampton, Va., then went on to work with the Virginia Department of Corrections at Mecklenburg Prison and St. Brides Correctional Center and ended his working career at Copart Auto Auctions.

Always the chef of the family, Cecil also enjoyed working his magic in the kitchen and singing in the choir with the members of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road; Suffolk, VA 23434.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2504 Bellpage Ave. Chesapeake, VA 23322.

The family is grateful for the loving support and care given by the staff of Allzwell Assisted Living, Medi-Hospice and the members of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
