Charles Syer IV

Virginia Beach - Charles Syer IV of 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach died May 6, 2014 after a brief illness. Mr. Syer was born October 26, 1931 in Portsmouth, Va., the eldest son of Virginia and Charles Syer. He attended local schools and graduated from The Woodbury Forest School, Orange Virginia, Princeton University, and The Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. While at Princeton he was a member of The Cottage Club and Phi Beta Kappa. He served as an officer in the U. S. Army and then worked at the Hanover Bank in New York, the Investment Corporation of Virginia and United Virginia Bankshares, now Suntrust in Norfolk, Virginia. He was an avid reader and had a deep interest in the arts. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Virginia Syer and a niece, Virginia Genereux and a nephew, John B. Syer Jr. and their spouses and children. The family wishes to thank the dedicated care givers at Westminster Canterbury Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles Syer Fund of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, 101 W. Main St., Ste 4500, Norfolk, VA 23510. Interment will be private.
