Conrad Gerald Ashe Sr.

Windsor - Conrad Gerald Ashe Sr., age 84, a resident of Windsor, Virginia for 36 years, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014. He was born in Swain County, North Carolina on June 4, 1929. After serving in the United States Air Force, he worked for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad until his retirement. He operated a successful contracting business for many years. His retirement years were spent with his beloved wife and business partner, Jane Ashe, owning and managing The American Sportsman Family Campground. He was a farmer at heart and spent many enjoyable days gardening and raising cattle with his loyal dogs by his side. Conrad was a member of Monitor Masonic Lodge #197 in Hampton, VA and a Shriner. He was an avid supporter of the Shriner's Hospital. Conrad loved his family and friends. He never forgot a kindness and once Conrad was your friend, he was always your friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Conrad was preceded in death by his father, Clint A. Ashe, Sr.; mother, Christine Carson Ashe and his brothers, Floyd Lee Ashe and Gene Eric Ashe.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 60 years, Jane McLendon Ashe; a son, Conrad G. "Mike" Ashe, Jr.; adopted by heart, Hank and Penny Monteiro all of Windsor, VA; four brothers, Bobby D. Ashe and wife, Barbara, Harry R. "Dick" Ashe, Clint A. Ashe, Jr. and wife, Brenda, all of Yorktown, VA and Wesley A. Ashe of Hampton, VA; three sisters, Joanna Lynn and husband, Mack of Rockwood, MI, Linda Sue Harrell and husband, Eddie of Hampton, VA and Victoria Clum and husband, Harold of St. Augustine, FL; 27 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 20, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Cemetery in Smithfield, VA. Condolences may be posted at www.rwbakerfh.com.
