Daniel Kelchner Obituary

Daniel H. Kelchner CHESAPEAKE - The Rev. Dr. Daniel H. Kelchner, 84, formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., went to be with the Lord Monday, May 10, 2010. Born in Flintstone, Md., he was the son of the late Herbert Best Kelchner and DeEsta Imes Kelchner. He was a graduate of Central Bible College and Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, both in Springfield, Mo., and later earned his Doctorate of Theology from International Seminary, Plymouth, Fla. For more than 40 years, he served as an Assemblies of God Minister in various churches throughout Virginia, Maine and North Carolina. After retirement, he served as a hospice chaplain for more than 10 years at Lutheran Home Care Services, Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Franklin County and Adams County, Pennsylvania. He taught seminar training for chaplains at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, Pa. He was also a health care chaplain with Assemblies of God. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Winifred J. "Penny" Kelchner; a son, Douglas M. Kelchner and wife Vicki of Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Miriam M. Scroggins and husband Donnie of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kelchner, Byron Kelchner and wife Jodie and Spencer Scroggins and wife Holly; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Isaac, Gracie and Ashley; two sisters, Ruth Lamp and husband Norman and Mary Edna Frye; as well as an extended family and many friends. The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday, May 13, in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Randy McMillan and the Rev. Gordon Hensley will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at Great Bridge Baptist Church. The viewing will begin on Thursday with the family receiving friends from 11 a.m. to noon, prior to the service at the funeral home.
