David Allen Mondy Jr. MCCOY - David Allen "David" Mondy Jr., 56, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010. He was born in Camp Lejeune, N.C., Dec. 6, 1953. Dave owned and operated the New River Junction at McCoy for more than 25 years. Dave was a proud father and coach to his junior golfers, Jake and Ryan, and took great pleasure in watching their success on and off the course. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette Mondy of Blacksburg; his parents, David Allen Sr. and Peggy Johnson of Norfolk; two sons, Jacob Allen "Jake" Mondy and Ryan Lenahan Mondy, both of Blacksburg; one sister, Deana Mondy of Chesapeake; one brother, Doug Mondy of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. A funeral will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Donald Conner officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception at the Blacksburg Country Club following the service. Many of my fondest memories are at New River Junction - about 20 years. The many days of floating, bus rides, camping, sitting by the river, camp fires, and listening to Dave tell stories. Dave was a man of many talents - I am still amazed of the time I saw him hit a golf ball across the river and into the car of a passing train on the other side.

I loved watching the boys grow up - Jakie driving the tractor like a pro when he was probably 3 or 4. And Ry-Guy, so shy and quiet. Bernie and her smiling face and friendship.

Blacksburg and New River Junction have lost a friend, but we all know Dave will always be up in heaven still taking care of his river.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Bernie, Jake and Ryan,

Dave and I grew close while fishing together for years on the Outer Banks. I fished with him the day before he passed and was on the beach waiting for him that sad morning. I'll keep waiting for him: I know he'll be with me each time I cast my line or reel in a fish.

He often told me how much he loved you boys and how proud of you he was.

He was a fine man and I will miss him greatly.

God bless you all.

Bernie - I am very sorry for your and your children's loss.

I was never able to get back to NRJ when it was open after I graduated from VT in 1986 and left Blacksburg after the end of that summer but NRJ and my time working with and getting to know both Dave and you are and will always be very cherished memories.

Rest in Peace Dave.

Bernie, Jake, & Ryan~ My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God take care of you through this difficult time.

Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake. Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me;your rod and your staff, they comfort me.You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Jake & Ryan,
I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your father. I remember very well when he would bring you two out to Cox's D.R. when you were very little to start working on your games. I played golf with your father a few times years ago and he was a very good player. I will be out of town Sat. and so sorry to miss the service but will always keep you guys and your mom in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dave. Myself and several close friends grew up and evolved with times spent at the Junction. Dave was a great man and will always be part of our memories. He was always so proud of his boys and would tell us about them every year.

You will be missed.

Thanks for all the great memories.

Bernie, Jake and Ryan,
I can't say that a day goes by here in Blacksburg without remembering all of the good time that we shared slingin' tubes, making the last run to clean up the rocks and riding around in that decrepit telephone company van and eating whatever Dave had on the grill.

So many good friends and great times. I'm sorry for your loss. I'll always remember Dave fondly and my time at the junction still makes me smile.
