David Breslauer Obituary

David C. Breslauer SUFFOLK - David C. Breslauer passed away surrounded by his family on Sept. 26, 2010 at home in Suffolk after a battle with cancer. He was 76. Dave was born in Orange, N.J., in 1934 to the late Edward J. and Frances C. Breslauer. He lived in Portsmouth for 22 years before moving to Suffolk in 1982. Mr. Breslauer served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952-56 on the USS Ticonderoga aircraft carrier.  After serving in the Navy, Dave stayed in the Norfolk area where he met his wife Mae Boykin. Dave was the vice president of Planning, Estimating and Purchasing for Associated Naval Architects in Portsmouth, where he was a dedicated and proud employee for 45 years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of Elizabeth Manor Country Club and the Retired Seniors Golf Association. His family and friends will remember him as a loving husband, father and Paw-Paw who was always willing to help people and whose generosity reached many. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gerald and Donald. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mae Boykin Breslauer; one son, D. Michael "Brez" Breslauer and his wife Robin of Suffolk; three granddaughters, Trisha, Tori and Carroll; two brothers, Edward (Noreen) and Joseph; three sisters, Dorothy Day, Mary Frances Feeley and Kathleen Brennan (Bill). He is also survived by his sisters- in-law, Charlotte Fedro (Roger) and Kathleen Hinnant; brothers-in-law, Jay Boykin (Silene) and Jimmy F. Boykin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, 3225 Academy Ave., Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church, High St., Portsmouth, on Friday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Jonathan Goertz officiating.  The interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, because Dave gave regularly to so many charities, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice, in his memory.   Condolences may be offered at www.lovingfuneralhome. com.
