Norfolk - Delbert R. Harris, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 in a Norfolk hospital. He was born in North Carolina, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II having earned the rank of Sergeant. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station having worked as an aviation machinist for many years.
Delbert was a graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1948 and was the father of four boys. He was very active in Masonry and was a 60 year member of Elizabeth Masonic Lodge No. 34, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Khedive Shrine Center where he was a member of the Hillbillies. He also served for many years with the Masonic Funeral Committee, the Order of Eastern Star, and was a member of "The Q".
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 64 years, Audrey Fields Harris; two sons, Mark Randall Harris and James Craig Harris both of Norfolk; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service with Masonic rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Sunday afternoon from 3 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Khedive Shrine Center in Chesapeake, Va.
