Don Askeland

Don Askeland PORTSMOUTH - Don "Swede" Askeland, 78, of the 4100 block of Race St., passed away April 17, 2010. Mr. Askeland, a native of Sandeford, Norway, was the son of the late Steffen J. and Dolly S. Askeland of Norway. Don was a Hampton Roads resident for 40 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a firefighter. Swede was an avid golfer and former member of the old Bide-A-Wee Golf Association, a member of the Elks Lodge and Catholic Club. He is survived by a son, Don Lee Askeland of Portsmouth; two sisters, Sofia Bos Koeford of Richmond, Dagmar Askeland of Norway; two nephews, Dr. Lars Bos Koeford of Richmond and Dr. Roy Bos Koeford of Philadelphia. Services will be private. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.
