Dear Susan, I just saw this email about the passing of your mother and I wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I lost my mother 17 years ago and mourn for her every day so I know how much your hurting. It sounds like your mom had a good long life and I know you are thankful for that. May your good memories and faith sustain you in your grief. Something we did when my mom passed was we planted a tree in her memory and you could do a rock garden around it. Just want you to know I'm thinking about you. Sincerely, Debbie Swartz

My Mother loved us--from our first breath to her last-- she loved us--she may not have always liked us--but, she loved us--her children.
I was her first-born, so, she loved me longer--not better, just longer.
My last words to my Mom were "I love you." to which she replied "Well, I know that!"

My Mother was strong - last week she told me she was going to do everything she had to do to go home -- she wanted to go home--her garden needed her, and there was work to be done upstairs. She'd be ready for a mean game of Canasta and there were unread books and yard sales and thrift shops. "Yup," she said, "I'm getting stronger-- I'm going home."

Knowing Mom like I do, I had no doubt that she would set her chin, clench her fist and fight. Again. "But," she whispered, "I'm tired." She patted my hand and said, "I'm so tired, but, I'm still going home. No matter what--I'm going home. I'm not Polish for nothing!"

On May 28th of this year -- Mom went home.

I'll miss so many things about my mother. Her lessons:
1) Don't retire, you'll wither like an old prune--she never retired.

2) Don't go on the dole--ever! Depend on those two hands at the end of your wrists.

3) Never let your children go hungry. Keep your pantry stocked. Add another cup of water to the soup.

4) Never let your children be cold--give them sweaters, coats and shoes.

5) Keep a roof over their heads -- pay that house payment first and keep rental property just in case --

6) Don't cheat at cards, even in a friendly game, because if you'd lie about the score--you'd lie about anything.

7) Trust your dog.

8) Smile a lot so nobody knows what you're really thinking

9) Outlive your enemies

10) Family comes first

11) Don't whine - this is a learning experience...
12) Don't question God - you can't see the wind, but you know it's there...

13) Babies smile because angel's are whispering secrets.

14) A buttermilk skies comes after a storm

15) Those red Japanese bushes are going to take over the world

16) Collect books so you'll always have an escape. Read!

17) Wear clean underwear.

18) Be good to everyone, especially your children--they'll choose your nursing home.

From our first breath, to her last, she loved us.

I'll miss my Mom.

The world lost a great nurse, artist, humanitarian, and believer of dreams. She was a great person and a beautiful soul that we miss deeply. I took painting classes with my grandma and she passed pearl of honest wisdom to my me and my family. We all miss grandma, Doris, and know that, Heaven has a new artist to help paint the morning skies. With love, Dawn, Mike, Michael, Gracie, and Keegan Gay.

SAFELY HOME
I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh!but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
