From 1966 thru 2000 he was a teacher, coach and athletic director at Windsor High School. The Windsor High School Baseball Field is named in his honor. He was elected to the Virginia Softball Hall of Fame; played and coached in the P.I.T. for three decades; and was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan. In his retirement, Tex enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities, where he always cheered from the sidelines.

Dixson and husband Will of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Michael Burton and Megan Burton both of Portsmouth, Amber Murray and Lexi Murray both of Chesapeake, Liam Dixson and Mary Devlin Dixson both of Charlotte, N.C.; members of his beloved extended Devlin Family in New Jersey; and his devoted golden retriever, Hannah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, Va. 23703, with visitation one hour prior. RIP my Newark NJ friend from the past. We played punchball in the alley, we played on the PAL Championship baseball team together. In the later years we were brought together through Facebook where I learned about your successful life in sports and family. I will miss you but a warmth in my heart will always remain.

Brian,
Alice and I were saddened to hear of your father's passing. It was always apparent to me how much you valued your family and the importance of family in your life. Although I never met your Dad, it has also become apparent that the apple does not fall far from the tree.
I can only imagine how difficult the recent days have been for you. Please know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

To the family of the greatest coach and teacher in the history of WHS, my deepest regrets go out to your family...I was blessed to play 5 years of baseball for Coach, after graduation I joined the US Air Force where I spent 25 years, but everytime I came home to visit I made a special trip to see him, if it happen to be a Friday night during football season you always knew to look for him and his lawn chair...God has his baseball coach, now the angels can playball.
Love you Coach

It is with deep regret to hear of the passing of coach Murray. He was a great coach and mentor at Windsor High School in which we attended in the 70's. None the less I know he loved my brothers. Reginald passed on fifteen years ago and coach Murray was with my family during the time of his death which meant a lot to my family. I know somewhere in heaven there is a great basketball game going on with Harden, Barr, and Boykins and coach cheering them on. Go Dukes!!!
Sincerely in our hearts,

To the Murray family: It is with deep regret to hear of the passing of such a great coachand mentor. He was a great coach to my brother Reginald Harden and Thomas Harden at Windsor High School in which we all attended. I will always remember how he stuck by his players while they attended school and after graduating from high school. My brother, Reggie past away fifteen years ago and coach Murray was right there with my family. I know he loved my brother and I know that somewhere in heaven there is a great basketball game going on with Harden, Barr, and Boykins. That's 4 points for the Dukes!!!!

Murray Family,
I was heartbroken to hear of Tex's passing, I was very young when he played ball at Frederick, but I never forgot Tex, because my dad always talked about him and compared athletes to him for his tenaciousness, self control and dedication. Dad passed away years ago but I remember at his funeral I looked around and Tex was there, that made a huge impression on me, one I'll never forget, God bless!

I'm very sorry for your loss and offer my deepest sympathies. Tex Murray touched so many throughout his life and I feel very fortunate to have known such a great man. He was my baseball coach at Windsor High School and, looking back on those days, the one thing that he truly taught us all was respect. Despite all of his success, he always taught us to respect others, the game, and learn from each experience as he did. He was a humble leader always looking for a way to honor others and redirect praise, a dedicated mentor, and a truly great friend. That is something that I know many remember, cherish, and will continue to celebrate about Coach Murray's life and legacy.

Frances, family and friends, especially those from FMA and Frederick College, my thoughts & prayers are with all of you.
I had the privilege, at the time it seemed the displeasure & problem, of being the Lt. in the first dorm for Tex, Brad, Joe and the Jersey Boys when they came South to Frederick Military. It was truly a "learning experience" for all of us.
Moving on to the college on the James, I had adjusted to and learned to like and care a lot for those same Jersey Boys who became ball hero's & friends.
While I have not seen many in years I still have some great, and scary memories of those first days at FMA & the later Fun Days at FC at Marford.
Blessings to all of you, Rest In Peace Coach Tex, you were a great teacher for even a non-ball player like me, there.

Murray Family:
I am sad to hear of Tex's passing. I attended Frederick Military Academy (59-60), and went on to Frederick College (60-63) being a member of the first class to graduate. Tex was a great guy, and I can see him and Coach Pete Meadows talking basketball and baseball along with Coach Bobby Hodges.
I always felt Tex was Coach Meadows' favorite guard. They could look each other in the eyes---both short, but great people. May our God bless each of you.
