Virginia Beach - On Saturday, July 27, 2013 in Va. Beach General Hospital, the angels quietly visited our beloved Edward G. Barcliff, Sr. He fought a good fight and we know that Lance Corporal (E-3) Edward Gather Barcliff can truly say that old soldiers never die, they just fade away. Edward, fondly known as "Eddie", was born on September 15, 1931 in Princess Anne County. He was the son of the late Richard and Helen Snead Barcliff. He is predeceased in death by his daughter, Marva Irene Barcliff and brother, Cornelius Barcliff. He was educated in the Public School System of Princess Anne County (Va. Beach). Edward joined St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church at a young age and served on the Board of Trustees under the leadership of Reverend Henry E. Jefferson. Edward joined the United States Marine Corp in 1950 and served faithfully for nine years. After leaving the military, he was employed and retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years. Edward loved fishing and spending time in the kitchen making special gourmet meals. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Cherishing fondest memories: a devoted wife of 57 years; Margaret Barcliff of Va. Beach, one son; Edward Gather Barcliff, Jr. of Va. Beach, two grandchildren; Evan of Atlanta, GA and Corey of Va. Beach, one great-grandchild; Zora of Va. Beach, two nieces; Algeria Hargraves and Keonya Brown(Mike) both of Va. Beach, three great nephews, Fred, Donovan and Sean and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Va. Beach Chapel of Community Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service Saturday, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens @ 11:30 a.m.(www.communityfh.com)
