Edward McAuley Obituary

Edward McAuley Sr. NASHVILLE - Edward M. McAuley Sr., 66, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010. He was born Jan. 28, 1944 in Hertford County to Terry and Hattie McAuley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie and his sister, Linda McAuley Allsbrook of Virginia Beach. He leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Pamela Pritchard McAuley; son, Edward Matthew (Matt) McAuley Jr. and wife Carolyn of Nashville; son, John Patrick McAuley and wife Betsie of Raleigh; and eight grandchildren who thought the world of him, Corey (15), Charlotte (13), Caleb (6), Anna (9), Layne (8), Luke (5) Megan (3), and Lauren McAuley. His grandchildren were one of his biggest passions and he cherished every moment with them. Ed graduated from Murfreesboro High School and Atlantic Christian College (Barton). He retired from the State of North Carolina Division of Adult Probation and Parole. He also served 27 years in the North Carolina Army National Guard and retired as sergeant first class in 1994. During retirement, he worked several part-time jobs at Lee Nissan, Inco, and the Nash County Landfill. Ed loved to hunt and fish and was preparing for turkey season when he passed away. During his last few hours, he was working with his closest friends at the Enfield Still Hunting and Social Club. Ed had always said when he passed, he wanted to be hunting or getting ready for it. His family is so proud of one of his greatest achievements, as he had just celebrated 10 years of sobriety. He helped to create many wonderful memories, remained a faithful husband through thick and thin, served as a hero to his sons and grandchildren, and touched the lives of so many that knew him. Visitation will be Monday, April 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home of Nashville, N.C. A funeral will be Tuesday, April 13, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1052 South First St., Nashville, NC 27856, with Pastor Richard Gurganus and Pastor Val Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the McAuley family by visiting www.cornerstone funeralhomeandcremations. com.

Ed took me under his wing when I started with the State many years ago - that's the kind of person he was. His friendship will be missed by many. My prayers are with his family and friends.
