Effie Hedge Obituary

Effie L. Hedge NORFOLK - Effie L. Hedge, 69, passed away peacefully at her home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness. She will be sadly missed by family, friends and loved ones. She was born March 29, 1941 in Savannah, Ga., to Eugene R. and Mary L. Knight. Effie was a member of the first graduating class of Robert W. Groves High School, Garden City, Ga., in 1959. Effie spent most of her life working at NARF Norfolk Naval Base where she packed parachutes during the Vietnam War and later built gyros for missile heads, retiring at grade GW-14 after 29 years of service. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, traveling and shopping. She was preceded in death by husbands, Crawford L. Hinson and Gerald W. Hedge; granddaughter, Erica Myer; brothers, Richard B. and Joseph E. Knight; and sister, Johnny Rose McKinney. She is survived by her children, Thomas E. (Janis) Hinson of Norfolk, Daniel L. (Patty) Hinson of Homeland, Ga., Robert M. (Mary) of Newport News and Cherie A. (Greg) Myer of Portland, Maine; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Gene E. (Betty) Knight of Bloomingdale, Ga.; and sister, Jane E. (Kevin) Moore of Gahanna, Ohio; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Services will be private with burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to your favorite charity.
