Elbert Gillespie Obituary

Elbert N. Gillespie VIRGINIA BEACH - Elbert Newton Gillespie, 75, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at a local hospital. Born in Beckley, W.Va., Elbert was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving as a tank crewman and receiving two Purple Hearts. He was retired from Lynnhaven Lincoln Mercury and a member and deacon at Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Billie Anne Gillespie; three daughters, Sharon Etheridge, Patty Griffin and Crystal Gillespie; four sons, Ellis, Randy, Newton and Gary Gillespie; four sisters, Nancy Rose, Margaret Crouch, Mary Ann Williams and Jane Hudson; a brother, Rodney "Layton" Gillespie; 23 grandchildren; and five great- grand- children. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Johnny Gillespie. He was a loving dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
