Elsie Mercer Obituary

Elsie L. Mercer CHESAPEAKE - Elsie Leigh Mercer, 93, passed away the morning of Oct. 20, 2010 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Elmo "Dick" Mercer; her son, the Rev. Ira Vincent Mercer; brothers, Army and Jimmy Tripp; and her sister, Leila Mae Stevens. Mrs. Mercer was a devoted member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer and choir member for many years. She worked as cafeteria manager of the former Princess Anne Elementary School near Princess Anne Courthouse. She is survived by grandson, Vincent Richard Mercer of Virginia Beach; granddaughters, Ruth Leigh Mercer and Shirley Mercer of Big Island, Va.; nephews, Tommy, Larry and Garry Tripp of North Carolina; and numerous other friends and family. The celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 23, at Graham Funeral Home with interment following at Rosewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts be made to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Please visit her Book of Memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a note to the family.
