Emma Olson Obituary

Emma Olson NORFOLK - Emma Olson, 82, passed away at home Wednesday evening, Nov. 10, 2010. She was born March 26, 1928 in Greding, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1955. She was predeceased by her parents, Willibald and Maria Lodermeyer; a brother, Willibald Lodermeyer; and two sisters, Johanna Hoffmann and Maria Schwer. She was one of the owners of the German Pantry Restaurant/Deli in Norfolk for 19 years. She was a charter member and past president of the German European American Society of Virginia. She was also an avid sailor and member of the Hampton Roads Fleet 30 Sailing Club. Even though she had been legally blind for seven years, it never stopped her from getting underway on her sailboat "Cinderella II" for new horizons as often as she could. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, David Olson; daughter, Marjorie Wood of Norfolk; two grandsons, Chad and Brian Bernhard of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four sisters, Therese Meixner and her husband Guenter Rose and Luise Fischer, all of Norfolk and Wallburga Wagenknecht and Josefina Mayer of Germany. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens followed by a celebration of her life; location to be announced at the service. Cremation and Funeral Services of Tidewater is handling arrangements. The family would like to thank Bon Secours Hospice for their support and, in lieu of flowers, asks that donations be made to a local hospice organization.

Dear David, dear Marji, dear Brian & Chad,

Manuela and I will miss Emma very much. She was such a nice, lovely and handsome lady. Sailing with her and David was always a great adventure. We still remember our last X-Mas in the US in 2006, which we were allowed to celebrate with her, David, Marji, Tom, Brian and Chad. We'll keep her in our minds as a personality with great humour and a positive attitude to life. All of you are in our prayers and we are sure there will be a reunion in heaven.

Fair winds and following seas to you, Emma

Emma will be very missed is obvious. I'll never forget having long interesting conversations with Emma while waiting for her grandson Chad for band practice (who was always late : ) and how gracious she was whether it was fixing us something to eat or just being her. Again she will be truly missed, may she rest in peace.
