Virginia Beach - Emory Lee "Sonny" Rose Jr. 80 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, at the Sentara Hospice House in Va. Beach. Sonny courageously battled Metastatic Melanoma for 3-1/2 years. Sonny was born on May 14, 1933 in Norfolk, Va. He was the Son of the late Emory Lee and Mabel Creecy Rose. Sonny attended Maury High School where he participated in football, basketball and track. After High School he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. After one year with the USPS Sonny received a Draft Notice and joined the USMC. Sonny received an Honorable Discharge after 3 years in the Marine Corp. Upon his discharge he was re-employed by the US Postal Service where he worked until his retirement at age 55 with 36 years of service. Sonny enjoyed his 25 years of retirement. He could often be found riding his bicycle along the boardwalk, working in his yard or relaxing on his porch. Other than his Parents, he was predeceased by his Sister Catherine Ann (Kitty) Rose Duvall. Sonny is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey L. Rose of Va. Beach, Brian E. Rose of Va. Beach, two Granddaughters, Elizabeth A. Rose of Va. Beach and Sherri L. Schultz of Leland, North Carolina, two Nieces Nancalee Thompson of Va. Beach, Kipal Bonniville of Chesapeake, Va. and a Nephew Paul Duvall of Fairfax, Va. A graveside funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday October 20, at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. Rev Michael Simone will officiate. Memorial Donations may be made to Spring Branch Mission Fund 1500 North Great Neck Road Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
