Estelle Hughes Obituary

Estelle W. Hughes SUFFOLK - Estelle Woolridge Hughes passed away April 25, 2010. She was born Jan. 13, 1920 in Petersburg, Va., and was the daughter of the late George and Lula Prosser Woolridge. Mrs. Hughes was preceaded in death by her husband, Neal W. Hughes; her sister, Beryl Gibbs Rowe; and her first grandchild, Arthur Lee Hughes. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Neal W. Hughes Jr. and wife Sandy of California, Glenn L. Hughes and wife Karen of Suffolk and Steven W. Hughes and wife Betsy of Hampton; granddaughters, Christine H. Nixon and Andrea Hughes; grandsons, Leigh Hughes and wife Kelly, Matt Hughes and wife Brooke, Adam Hughes, Jared Hughes; and great- grandsons, Michael Nixon and Henry Hughes; and very special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hughes was a faithful member of the Suffolk Christian Church and proud member of the Sassy Red Hatters of Suffolk. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Michael D. Halley followed by a reception at Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434. The family will receive friends at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434 Thursday, April 29, from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA, 23434. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com. The family wishes to thank the staff of Nansemond Pointe for their care and concern.
