Forrest Sparks Obituary

Forrest Sparks CHESAPEAKE - Forrest Sparks, 86, of the 1400 block of Orchard Grove Drive, passed away April 29, 2010 in a local hospital. A native of Halifax, N.C., he was the son of the late William Forrest and Enola Greganus Sparks and the widower of Nellie M. Sparks. He was a Master Plumber and owner of Sparkey's Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning. He was former president of the Plumbing & Heating Association of Virginia Beach. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend of many. He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Sparks Kramer and husband Wesley of Clover, S.C., Sharon Sparks Reyes and husband Steven of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Peggy Sparks Lakner of Chesapeake; his son, Richard Forrest Sparks of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Blake Sparks, Ashley Lakner, Amy Kramer, Misti Kramer Fuentes and Charla Kramer Carter; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elsie Harlow and Nealy Warren and brother, Earl. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Nicholas Terry for all his loving and compassionate care during Forrest's prolonged illness and also the special friendship displayed by the musicians at Quality Music where Forrest and Richard spent many special Saturday afternoons. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Garland Hines officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

There are no common words to describe the uncommon fella who was loved by all. I considered Sparky - and still do - a musical mentor, a benchmark for aging without growing old, and, first and foremost, a truly good man. He spoke lovingly of his family, good naturedly about the Marine Corps, reverently of our Lord, and often in his belief in the power of prayer. His arthritic fingers still played the guitar from one end of the neck to the other, and, in spite of being short of breath, kept his wonderful singing voice right to the end. We know in our hearts that Sparky was in heaven long before he died. And though he is gone from us in person, he'll be in our memories forever.

I am so sorry to hear about the news of your father.....I have many fond memories of him and your mother in their home....especially Nellie's sweet tea and Sparky's dancing.....I am thinking of you all, Nancy, Sharon, Richard and my old friend Peggy....

I rember spending time with Mr. and Mrs. Sparks at their home in Virginia Beach. They welcomed my son Matther and I into their home as if we where part of the family. To Peggy and her family you are in my prayers,. With Love Susan Harp Morgan.

There will never be another man like 'Sparky". He was one of the best people to walk this earth. I love and cherish the many moments our families spent together. He was loved, and will be sorely missed by many. Loretta and the Don Hall family.
