Genevieve Saunders Obituary

Genevieve Saunders PORTSMOUTH - Genevieve Saunders, 94, passed away Saturday Oct. 30, 2010. She was a native of Portsmouth, a devoted member of Westhaven Baptist Church, a member of the Portsmouth Woman's Club and Esther Chapter No. 37, Order of the Eastern Star. Jennie was the gift shop manager at Cole- man's Nursery for more than 25 years. Mrs. Saunders was predeceased by her husband, John L. Saunders Sr.; parents, Mildred and Leisle Snyder; brothers, Wade, Elton and Billy; sisters, Leota Lassiter and Rosa Snyder. She is survived by her daughter, Christie Saunders; son-in-law Wayne Combs; sons, John Saunders Jr. and wife Ann, Dale Saunders and wife Katherine; sisters, Mildred L. Lancaster, Mae Baker and Trudy Roberts; a brother, Leonard Snyder; grandchildren, Catherine DeBorja, Ashley Martin, Dustin and Emily Saunders, Melissa and Allison Combs; and great- grandchildren, Christian and Alexa DeBorja. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Westhaven Baptist Church by the Rev. W. Thomas Wood and Dr. Jim Wall with interment to follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday with an Eastern Star service to begin at 6:30 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.lovingfuneralhome.com.

A truly wonderful lady in all ways. Never an unkind word to me and always a smile when I came around. She gave my family a truly wonderful gift , that of making my own grandmother feel welcome and loved in her final years. Hopefully they are sitting up there enjoying each others company and keeping an eye on the rest of us. Thanks for loving us all.
