Gerald Pulley Obituary

Gerald P. Pulley VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Gerald P. Pulley, 88, passed away March 31, 2011. Born in King City, Mo., he lived through the Depression and served his country for 30 years as a photographer during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He loved sharing stories of his time in the Navy, including his two tours as White House photographer under Harry S. Truman and his time in the South Pacific with Adm. Byrd. He was also decorated for his service during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an active member of the Bayside Masonic Lodge No. 218 (more than 60 years) and a founding member of the National Association of Naval Photography. He will best be remembered as a devoted husband to the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Mary Virginia. Jerry was also a great father to his three children, Linda Sartin, Donn Pulley and Ginny Justice (Tom), and grandfather to four wonderful grandkids. In addition, he leaves behind countless shipmates, whom he cherished all his life. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is grateful for donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
