Gloria Blount

Gloria M. Blount PORTSMOUTH - Gloria Mae Pope Blount, 70, of the 300 block of Viking St., died Sept. 30, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Boykins, Va., and was a member of Union Bethel Baptist Church in Suffolk. She was a graduate of Suffolk Public Schools/East Suffolk High and she attended Norfolk State University. Survivors include her husband, Melvin C. Blount Sr.; three daughters, Karen B. Dunn (Hershell Sr.), Sandra D. Peterson and Beverly Anderson (Michael); one son, Melvin C. Blount (Gloria); one sister, Hattie T. Brotherton (James); one brother, Douglas M. Pope (Eunice); her mother-in-law, Ophelia N. Blount; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dr. Linda B. McCluney (Charles), Janet Blount (Wendell), Milton Blount (Agnes) and Sherrod Blount; best friends, Shirley Newton, Shirley Kirkland and Shirley Barnes; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her mother and father, Lillie Peaches Joyner Pope and Emmitt D. Pope. A funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. at Union Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
