Harry Fremd Obituary

Harry L. Fremd VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Harry LeRoy Fremd died at his home July 5, 2011. Born April 25, 1929 in West Palm Beach, Fla., he was the son of the late Albert and Blanche Braley Fremd. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn Cox (Robert) and Irene DeGray (WG). He is survived by his wife of more than 59 years, Dorothy; sons, Harry L. "Skip" Fremd II (Shirley), Karl G. Fremd and Raymond V. "Buddy" Fremd (Donna); and daughters, Kristina Ary (Michael), Theresa Ziegler (Paul) and Wendy Langley; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Pahokee High School in Pahokee, Fla., and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Navy Wings in 1954. For several years, he was active with his sons in the Cub Scouts (Pack Master 364), Boy Scouts and Order of The Arrow. Harry was also a life member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. "Precious" drove many miles in Virginia and North Carolina picking up and delivering blood as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. A longtime member of Old Donation Church, he served on its vestry and in other capacities over the years and was a member of Bayside Masonic Lodge No. 218 AF&AM. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, at 1 p.m. at Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455 with a reception following in the parish hall. The family would like to thank Doctors Jun Chung, J. Sumner Bell and Howard Weinburg and their staffs and Sentara Home Care Services for all their kindnesses, care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Discretionary Fund of Old Donation Episcopal Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Dot and Family: I served with Harry on the Safety Center Staff. He was a great guy and an outstanding officer. He gave his all to the USN. I am proud to say that I knew Harry and of his accomplishments while on active duty. May he rest in Jesus' Loving Arms.
