Helen Jackson Obituary

Helen R. Jackson NORFOLK - Helen R. Jackson, 78, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 after a brief illness. Helen was originally from Bluefield, W.Va. She attended nursing school in Dayton, Ohio, and later made Norfolk her home for 51 years, raising her family and enjoying a long career in health care. She retired from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she worked for 32 years, starting as a maternity ward nurse and finishing her career in various hospital administrative positions. Helen will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her late husband, Johnny, and the insistence to live her life independently and only as "she" wanted. Helen was predeceased by John B. Jackson, her best friend and husband of 47 years. She is survived by her four children, Kathryn Ward, John Paul Jackson, David Jackson and Lisabeth Woodruff. Helen is also survived by her four grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Woodlawn Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
