Helen M. Oswald NORFOLK - Helen Mary Oswald, 89, passed away Oct. 29, 2010. A native of Oswego, N.Y., Mrs. Oswald retired from the U.S. Navy after 27 years of service as a chief petty officer and as one of the original U.S. Navy WAVES. She served during World War II and the Vietnam War and was employed with General Electric Company before returning to the U.S. Navy. Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth A. Hendricks and husband Gary of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Jennifer L. Benjamin and husband David N. Benjamin Jr., Richard E. Hendricks and wife Crystal; three great-grandchildren, Rachel M. Hendricks, Brandon S. Benjamin and Matthew R. Benjamin. The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel.
