Virginia Beach - Mr. Herbert Jackson Rossell Jr., 84, of Leesburg, Virginia passed on Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
Formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, and affectionately known as "Airport Jack," was a retired Air traffic controller Tower Chief in Norfolk, VA.
Jack was born on Wednesday, September 25, 1929 in Great Neck, New York. He was the son of the late Herbert J. Rossell and the late Mildred Culiford Rossell.
Jack served his country in the United States Air Force serving as Staff Sgt., and then went on to work with the FAA until retiring to Virginia Beach in 1993. During his life he volunteered as a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, playing senior's tennis, following local high school teams as well as ushering for the Tidewater Tides and being a season ticket holder for the Norfolk Admirals.
Mr. Rossell was predeceased by his former wife Julie Rossell in 2001. He was also predeceased by his wife Joanne Frost Tavella Rossell, and his sister Joan Rossell Dolittle. He leaves his family to cherish his memory including his daughters Faith Denise Rossell of Coral Springs, FL, and Candice Rossell & Curtis Baunsgard of Bellevue, WA, and his son, Brian Keith and Jackie Rossell of Leesburg, VA; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, what a lucky man.
A funeral mass will be held on April 29, 2014 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, VA at 1:30 pm.
Interment services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made, in Mr. Rossell's memory for his love of the wrestling program, to Loudoun County High School.
