Norfolk - Mr. Howell Earl Banks, age 87, of Hampton Roads, Virginia, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at his residence in Bracey. He was a retired Yard Master, with forty years of service with the Norfolk and Southern Railroad, a U.S. Navy Korean conflict veteran, and a U.S. Merchant Marine and a World War 2 veteran. Among many interests, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and boating with his grandchildren on Lake Gaston. Mr. Banks is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Lula Mae Pollard Banks of Bracey, his daughter Debra Banks McLaughlin and her husband John Thomas McLaughlin, and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Thomas McLaughlin, Kelly Nicole McLaughlin and Timothy Ryan McLaughlin, all of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and his brother, Clarence Leo Banks. The family will receive friends at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday at 12:30 P.M., followed by a service at 2:00 P.M. A private entombent will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, Virginia.
