Jacquelyn Melson Obituary

Jacquelyn D. Melson VIRGINIA BEACH - Jacquelyn Doyle "Jackie" Melson, 77, passed away June 16, 2010. She was born in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of the late Alice Vollom Doyle. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Ray Melson Jr.; her sister, Caroline Doyle Evette; and her sister-in-law, Kay Melson Collins. Jackie was president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 113 for seven years, and Girl State counselor for two years. She drove a school bus for the Virginia Beach Public Schools for 24 years and retired in 1990. Jackie is survived by her very loving husband and best friend, Kenneth Ray Melson Sr.; two children, Richard and Caroline Melson of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Jackie and Kenneth Robbins whom she dearly loved; she was also survived by her cousin, George Fowler; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted Tuesday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Thomas Armbrister. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.

Jackie will truly be missed. I met her when our husbands were at their Legion meeting. She told me about the American Legion Auxilliary where I seemed to become an instant member. She always made me feel welcome. She was a true lady and I am so blessed to have known her. Betsy Scales
