James Barchick Obituary

James Barchick CHESAPEAKE - James "Jim" Barchick went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, May 17, 2009. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he was the only child of Edward and Elizabeth Barchick, and was predeceased by his wife, Norma P. Barchick. Jim retired from the U.S. Navy where he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served aboard the aircraft carriers, Kitty Hawk and America. He was a member of the Squadron VA 35 "Black Panthers." He worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 51, for 20 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered for his love of Notre Dame, Ohio State and fishing. He was a devoted father to Michael and Jon; grandfather to Jonathan, Carrie Lynn and Hailey, all of Virginia Beach. He also is survived by a cousin, David Smith; as well as a niece, Amy Hylton and husband Matt, their children, Cassidy and Cameron; nephew, Jason Fender and wife Laura and their children, Gage and Eden; and nephew, Justin Fender and wife Melody and their children, Tyler, Kaden and Amaya. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Lake Drummond Baptist Church, 3873 Ballahack Road, Chesapeake. Pastor William A. "Buddy" Hoggard II will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow the interment at the church. The viewing will begin Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
