James C. Burkett

Coinjock, NC - James Colbert Burkett, 68, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in his home.

Born in North Carolina, he was a retired Computer System Analyst with Spawar. He was a previous member of Green Run Baptist Church. He is a current member of Coinjock Baptist Church and Princess Anne Masonic Lodge No. 25. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran.

Jim "J.C." was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him.

Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife of 42 years, Jackie Burkett; daughter, Carey Burkett; son, Wes Burkett; mother, Bessie Burkett; sisters, Marie Hembree and husband Allen, Virgia Nichols and husband Jessie, Brenda Quill and husband Linwood, and Janice Wagel; brothers, Wayne Burkett and wife Julia, Richard Burkett and wife Jean, and Ray Burkett and wife Gayle; his grandchildren, Eli, Cyrus, Merrick and Micah; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Merrick Burkett.

The family will received friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church by Rev. Ricky Bishop. Interment will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
