James Fisher Obituary

James Shearer Fisher VIRGINIA BEACH - James Shearer Fisher, 90, of Virginia Beach and originally from New Jersey, lost his 20-year battle with prostate cancer Sept. 3, 2010. Born April 7, 1920 in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late Thomas and Jean McGregor Fisher. He retired from New Jersey Bell Telephone as a supervisor after 30 years of service. He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, N.J., Class of 1938, had an associates degree in accounting from Rutgers University and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Reiber Fisher. He is survived by his three children, Beryl Joan Fisher Hawn of Virginia Beach, Donald James Fisher and wife Tiina of Millersville, Md., and Virginia Ruth Fisher of West Orange, N.J.; a sister, Jean McGregor Fisher Petoia and husband Robert of Brick, N.J.; and five grandchildren, James Russell Hawn III and Elizabeth Anne Fisher Hawn, both of Virginia Beach, Krista Magi Fisher, Kerin Mai Fisher and Emily Kristiina Fisher, all of Millersville. A funeral will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Bell officiating. The burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
