Norfolk - James Leighton Croom, 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2013, at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk,Virginia.
Leighton was a World War II Navy veteran, a machinist with the civil service, and after many years of serving his country in the Tidewater area, he retired to his hometown of Robersonville, NC, where he enjoyed golfing and serving as an elder in the Gold Point Christian Church.
Leighton is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce; his brother Alton and wife Lynette; his three daughters, Joyce Lee Farley and husband Jerry; Bonnie Burke and husband Charles; and Judith Land and husband James. He was proud of his seven (7)grandchildren, James Farley, Jeffrey Farley, Rhonda Armstrong, Brandi (Armstrong) Rood, Ashley Land, Camron Land, Jenine Land, and adored his seven great grandchildren.
Services were held at Biggs Funeral Home in Robersonville, North Carolina, on Monday, July 1, with burial at the Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be sent to the Gold Point Christian Church, Atten: Janie Roberson, PO Box 758, Robersonville, NC 27871.
