Fairfield - Mr. Jean Ronald Bray, 83, died January 25, 2013, with bone cancer. He went into the arms of our lord, surrounded by his loved ones, in his cottage on Shadows Brook Farm, the home of his daughter Pamela and son-in-law Alan in Fairfield, VA Mr. Bray was born in Paint Creek, WVA on September 28, 1929, moved to Norfolk in 1941. He graduated from Norview High School in 1948. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy King Bray; his daughter Pamela Sheely and spouse Alan, of Fairfield, VA; his son, Ronald Bray and spouse Cindy, of Chesapeake, VA; his twin brother, James Bray and his spouse Mary, of Haines City, Fl; his grandchildren, Jason and Bryan Sheely, Derek, Travis and Corey Bray, Zachary and Wesley Bray, 6 great-grandchildren, his therapy dog and constant companion, Freddie. He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Pearl Bray, brothers; Everett Bray, Jr. Daniel Bray, sister; Vera Bowden and his son Richard Bray. Mr. Bray retired after 38 years from C&P Telephone Company. He lived in Va. Beach, 28 years. At retirement he and his wife moved to Sweetwater Golf & Tennis in Haines City, Fl. With failing health, in 2009 he and his wife moved from Florida to his daughter Pamela and son-in-law Alan's farm in Fairfield, VA. In his lifetime he found great joy in the company of his family, his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren. He was a gentle man, proud of his southern heritage, adherent to his Christian faith, endowed with resolve and "true grit" to the very end. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Replay Thoroughbred Rescue, 1865 Borden Grant Trail, Fairfield, VA 24435, in memory of Jean Bray. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Shadows Brook Farm. Where his ashes will be laid to rest in the west pasture under the birch tree by the brook, his favorite spot.
