Jeffrey Markman Obituary

Jeffrey Aaron Markman VIRGINIA BEACH - Jeffrey Aaron Markman, 51, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 in a Virginia Beach hospital. He was born in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, to Marilyn Simon Weinberg and Bert Markman of blessed memory. Jeff is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Tracey; his dear daughter, Rachel; his sister, Amy Goldberg; and nephews, Dillon and Bailey Goldberg. He is also survived by his mother, Marilyn Weinberg; and brother, Brian Markman; and sister-in-law, Dawn. His best friend in life was Bubba, his dear dog. He attended First Colonial High School and Curry College in Boston. After college, he worked for his stepfather Marvin Simon at Sicash Builders, and had a warm and most loving relationship with him. Jeff was soft-spoken, kind, and an easy person to love. He generously gave funds to many charities, including the Simon Family JCC, soccer park, Jewish Family Service, Diabetes Foundation and others. He owned Reisner Delicatessen and enjoyed his many customers and friends. He was blessed for many years with the love of two special fathers, Bert Markman and Marvin Simon, both of blessed memory. His passing was tragic to all his family as we watched him struggle with myotonic muscular dystrophy. Jeff's nurse, Stephanie Butler was a special ray of light during his long illness. There are no words to properly show our love to her and many others. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Warth and Dr. Barbara Parks for their kind and dedicated care, as well as the staff at ICU Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Our appreciation also goes to nurses Vicky, Verna and Eve as well. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 24, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk with Rabbi Israel Zoberman officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Amy Goldberg, Cavalier Drive, Bay Colony, Virginia Beach, following the graveside services and also from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Contributions in Jeff's memory may be sent to Muscular Dystrophy, Crystal Ball for a Cure Inc., 1724 N. Alanton Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements and online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.
