Carrollton - Jesse Carlyse "JC" Johnson, 81, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, after an extended illness. Born in Bertie County, N.C., JC was the son of the late William McKinley and Martha Brown Johnson. Formerly of Portsmouth, JC had lived in Isle of Wight County over 40 years.
While living in Portsmouth, JC owned and operated two different Texaco service stations. After coming to Isle of Wight, JC went into business for himself and owned and operated Johnson Disposal, Inc., for 44 years. In his retirement, JC was a driver for Norfolk Truck Center. In his pastime, he was passionate about antiques and especially working on tractors and farm equipment. He enjoyed life and loved nature and spent countless hours just watching the wildlife and nature from his spot overlooking the James River.
Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Geneva Meade Johnson (d.2004), JC was the beloved father of three devoted daughters, Dianne Pond (George) of Windsor, Julia Brooks (Eddie) of Carrollton, and Jerianne Johnson of Surry. He is also survived by three loving granddaughters, Candice Vande Brake (Jordan), Miranda Brooks, and Jessica Gardner, and a host of extended family.
Family and friends will gather for visitation 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13, in Colonial Funeral Home. A service celebrating JC's life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, in the funeral home, with Rev. Frank Parish officiating. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
