Jimmie Garris Obituary

Jimmie R. Garris VIRGINIA BEACH - Jimmie R. Garris, 75, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010. He was the son of the late John and Cordelia Garris. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Franklin and John Garris. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Y. Garris; two children, Jimmie Randolph "Randy" Garris Jr. and his wife Faye of Gloucester, Donna James and her husband Stanley "Stan" of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Nina, Jacqueline, Cody, Courtney, Jimmie III "Jake," Cameron and Carolynne; and three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Dawson and Chamberlin. He will be greatly missed. He retired from Virginia Power with 30 years of service and worked at Norfolk and Virginia East offices. He was a member and deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Norfolk. He was involved in the Norfolk Moose Lodge No. 39, Nansemond Cotillion and the Langley O.C. A service will be held Thursday, June 10, at 2 p.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Fred Braswell officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.altmeyer.com.

We just heard from Ed Smith about Jim and we are still in shock. Our hearts go out to Barbara. We will attend the funeral tomorrow.
