Jo Sherlock Obituary

Jo Ann G. Sherlock VIRGINIA BEACH - Jo Ann Gallagher Sherlock, 65, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010. Born in Washington, D.C., she was a devoted daughter and a wonderful wife and mother. A Navy wife for 29 of her 42 years of marriage to Jim, she cherished and took care of her husband and two children amid multiple moves and deployments. She earned the undying love and devotion of her family and a legion of friends. She is survived by her family including her husband, James C. Sherlock; two children, Brendan Sherlock of Charlottesville and Kieran Poulos and her husband Christopher of Virginia Beach; mother, Audrey Gallagher of Alexandria; four grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Aidan Sherlock, Riley Sherlock, Cullen Poulos and Carson Poulos; brother, James Gallagher and his wife Patricia of Springfield; and sister, Joyce Gallagher Martin of Burke. Jo Ann was predeceased by her father, John Paul Gallagher. In accordance with Mrs. Sherlock's wishes, services will be private. She also hoped that none would grieve for her. That wish cannot be granted. A reception to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Princess Anne Country Club, 3800 Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 8888, Virginia Beach, VA 23450 or online at http://www.lungusa.org/ donate/. Arrangements are under the direction of Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.

Dear Jim, Kieran and Brendan; Our family has sweet memories of your high school years and the support and pride your mother had for her wonderful children.
