John Allen Obituary

John Denver Allen CHESAPEAKE - John Denver Allen, 73, of the 200 block of Bridgeview Circle, died Oct. 13, 2010, at his home. Mr. Allen, a native of Chesapeake, was the son of the late Raleigh R. and Mabel E. Allen. He was the loving husband of Beverly Hick Allen for 39 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was the co-owner of Port Allen Marine Services Inc. He served as bishop of the church and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a devoted Scoutmaster, urging many boys to achieve the rank of Eagle. He enjoyed taking youth hiking in the mountains along the Appalachian Trail. Besides his wife, he is survived by seven daughters, Phyllis Gore, husband Robert; Karen Allen, Ruth Allen, all of Jacksonville, Fla., B. Maria Cranford, husband Jonathan, Annie VanderWal, husband Greg of Chesapeake, Caroline Farrell, husband Josh of Virginia Beach, Barbara Peterson, husband Brent of Williamsburg; and two sons, John D. Allen II and Raleigh W. Allen of Chesapeake; sisters, Mary Whitley of Saluda, Va., Alice Holloman and Betty Christenson of Chesapeake; brothers, James Allen of Jacksonville, Fla., Buddy Allen of Chesapeake, Fred W. Allen of Virginia Beach and Phil Allen of Chesapeake. He was predeceased by brothers, Edward B. Allen and Charles Allen. He was also a devoted and loving granddaddy to 24 grandchildren. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 412 Scarborough Drive, Chesapeake, by Bishop Greg Robertson. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will be in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Great Bridge Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the Tidewater Council of The Boy Scouts of America.

I had the privilage of knowing Mr Allen for 22 years and will always consider his family and his children my very own family he was loved and respected and will be greatly missed...JD love you brother I am and always willbe your best friend throught thick and thin....Mrs. Allen you have always been like a second mother to me my thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

I will go I will do the things the LORD commands I know the LORD provides a way he wants me to obey....That is just what he believed and that is what he showed his love for First his heavenly father in heaven 2nd himself and 3rd his family and last everyone else. He loved like the Lord would love each and every one of us and he served not only the LORD but everyone around him even up to the last minutes and days. R.I.P. Bishop Allen we all love and appreciate you and can't wait to see you at those pearly gates of heaven.
