John Taliaferro

John A. Taliaferro VIRGINIA BEACH - John Ackiss Taliaferro, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010. A loving husband and devoted father, John was born in the town of Virginia Beach Feb. 20, 1925. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack Bunce Taliaferro and Madge Ackiss Taliaferro and his sister, Madge Taliaferro Landis. A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, John served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a State Farm agent and retired after 35 years of service. He was an Eagle Scout, a lifetime member and past president of the Virginia Beach Jaycees and past president of the Virginia Beach Little League, charter member of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad and long time member and past vestryman of Eastern Shore Episcopal Church. John leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Vivian; his four children and spouses, Jeanne Schemering (Michael), Kem (Jean), Bob (Traci) and Alan (Barbara). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. The visitation will be followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.
