A native of Belhaven, she was the daughter of Victor and Elizabeth Wade Ambrose and was a 1933 graduate of John Wilkinson High School. She continued her education at East Carolina Teachers College, graduating in 1937 with a degree in elementary education and then taught 6th grade in Hertford County until her retirement after 36 years of service. The family will be receiving friends at the family home in Murfreesboro today from 5 to 7 p.m. and a graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, with Dr. Lee Canipe presiding. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to share a memorial gift, please do so to the John Milton Jenkins Sr. and Josephine Ambrose Jenkins Friends of Teacher Education Scholarship Endowment Fund, Chowan University, 1 University Place, Murfreesboro, NC 27855. The family extends sincere gratitude to Roanoke Chowan Hospital, especially the second floor staff and to Rich Square Health Care Center for all the loving care they gave Mrs. Jenkins during her stay with them.
