Lawrence Hammonds Obituary

Lawrence F. Hammonds VIRGINIA BEACH - Lawrence Fredrick "Fred" Hammonds passed away peacefully with his family by his side Oct. 23, 2010. He was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Macon, Ga., to the late John L. Sullivan and Ella Hammonds. His loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mary L. Hammonds and his brother, J.T. Hammonds also preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Larry Hammonds and his wife Vicky Ulvestad of Prairie Lake, Minn., Patricia Hammer and husband John, Mitchell Hammonds and wife Lynnette, all of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as his extended family, friends and neighbors. Fred was a retired Navy chief who served with honor and received many commendations in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Entombment with military honors will be held in Princess Anne Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass. Arrangements are under the care of Hollomon-Brown Funeral, Home Lynnhaven Chapel.
